Apple has hired Toronto Blue Jays Assistant GM Jay Sartori as the manager of its App Store Sports and Entertainment Category, reports Sportsnet.
Sartori is taking over as the tech titan’s manager of the App Store’s sports and entertainment category, a departure from the arbitration, contract and collective bargaining agreement interpretation work he handled for the Blue Jays. He’s been in the position since September, 2010, when he was lured over from the Washington Nationals after a season as director of baseball operations there. Before that he worked for Major League Baseball’s labour department, helping negotiate the 2006 CBA.

Volkswagen Unveils MARTA Augmented Reality Service Support App
Volkswagon has announced MARTA, an augmented reality service support system that uses the iPad to help technicians service their new X1 concept car.
Using the previous approach, the service technician could only call up digital repair guidelines. For the XL1, these guidelines were supplemented by the MARTA augmented reality function which "labels" the individual parts and elements with text and shows work instructions clearly.

Windows Phone Reaches 9.2% Market Share in Major European Markets
Windows Phone has reached its highest ever sales share of 9.2% across the five major European Markets, reports Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. The company looked at the three months to August 2013 and found that Windows Phone hit double digit sales in France and Great Britain with 10.8% and 12% of the market, respectively. Notably, it's within 1% of Apple's market share in Germany.
Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, says that although Android dominates with 70.1% of the market share across Europe, it's having a harder time finding growth.

Tim Cook Announces Extended Thanksgiving Holiday With Pay for Apple Employees
Apple CEO Tim Cook has written an email to employees thanking them for their hard work and announcing an extended Thanksgiving holiday with pay.
Retail, AppleCare, and a few other teams that must remain open will still get the same number of days off at an alternate time.
