Apple's Touch ID is Still Vulnerable to Faked Fingerprints

Security on the Apple Touch ID fingerprint reader of the iPhone 6 has only been marginally tightened and it's still vulnerable to a simple fake fingerprint hack, reports Marc Rogers, chief security researcher at Lookout Mobile Security.

"I don't think people need to worry just yet, but there are distinct flaws that could lead to problems down the line, he told CNET. Rogers used the same low-budget technique to fake fingerprints and unlock the iPhone 6 as he demonstrated previously on the iPhone 5S.
"Sadly there has been little in the way of measurable improvement in the sensor between these two devices," he wrote. "Fake fingerprints created using my previous technique were able to readily fool both devices."

The iPhone 6 Could Bend In Your Pocket or With Your Bare Hands

Just a few days after launch, a growing number of iPhone 6 owners are reporting that the new device has bent while in their pocket!
Hanzoh posted his experience with the new iPhone 6 Plus on the MacRumors forums:
Yesterday, I left at 10am with the iPhone in my left FRONT pocket of my suit pants. I drove 4 hours to a wedding, which also involved a lot of sitting during dinner etc but also 2-3 hours of dancing. I left at 2am and went to bed, driving home 4 hours back.

So in total, the 6 Plus was about 18 hours in my pocket while sitting mostly. As I lay it on the coffee table and sat down on the couch to relax from the drive (yes, sitting again ), I saw the reflection of the window in the iPhones slightly distorted.

Black Market Takes Over the iPhone 6 Lines

Filmmaker Casey Neistat has posted a new video entitled 'Black Market Takes Over the iPhone 6 Lines' which offers a closer look at the lineup for the iPhone 6 in NYC.
It appears that many in line paid to be there by a middle man who takes the iPhones from users after they leave the store and likely sends them to China or other countries for sale on the black market.

It's thought that the situation this year is worsened by the delay in the approval of Apple's new smartphones for China.

iOS 8 is Officially Released

Apple today released iOS 8 to the public, making the download available to all users who have an iPhone 4s or later, iPad 2 or later, 5th-generation iPod touch, or iPad mini.

The update can be downloaded via iTunes or through an over-the-air update accessible by going to the Settings app and tapping General ---> Software Update.

iOS 8 delivers a simpler, faster and more intuitive user experience with new Messages and Photos features, predictive typing for Apple’s QuickType keyboard and Family Sharing. iOS 8 also includes the new Health app, giving you a clear overview of your health and fitness data and iCloud Drive, so you can store files and access them from anywhere. With more than 4,000 new APIs, iOS 8 allows developers to further customize the user experience with major extensibility features and robust frameworks such as HealthKit and HomeKit.

While iOS 8 is currently available for download, it may take a few minutes for the update to propagate to all users due to demand. In past years, Apple's servers have been overwhelmed with traffic.

What You Should Know Before Upgrade To iOS 8

Apple is going to release iOS 8 today.
Many of us will download it as soon as it's available, and many more will do it as soon as a notification pops up on our iPhone or iPad.

iOS 7 was a major upheaval: A different user experience for iOS. People using low-end devices found that the upgrade was a little too much for their systems to handle, and some of the new features broke compatibility with existing apps.

Even though iOS 8 isn't as major a change as iOS 7 was, there are still good reasons to wait.

Alleged iWatch Component Drawings Leaked

Alleged CAD drawings of various iWatch components have been leaked online just a day before its expected unveiling.

The images were posted to reddit this morning and appear to show a comparison of parts from the P2B to EVT stage.

The device will purported feature a mic, speaker, and Siri. A flexible multi-touch screen is said to add a 'new dimension' to the user interface.

There apparently won't be a lightning connector or other ports. The battery is said to last over a day and the device will allegedly be waterproof to about 20m.

This is said to be Apple's 'most complex and expensive product to manufacture' to date. A timeline has yet to be finalized; however, mass production is scheduled to start in January.

iWatch to Come in Two Different Screen Sizes, 8GB of Storage and 512 MB RAM

KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo released a report today with his updated expectations on Apple's rumored wearable product. Kuo see's Apple releasing an iWatch with two different screen sizes -- 1.3-inches and 1.5-inches. Kuo also believes the iWatch will pack 8GB of internal storage with 512 MB of RAM.
While 8GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM seem low compared to iOS devices (which have 1GB of ram and 16GB storage), the specs are on the high-end for a smart watch. Some believe the iWatch could act independently from an iOS device, and Kuo's analysis falls in-line with that speculation.

Kuo is somewhat unsure about the casing for the device, but believes we will see 2-4 different types, with aluminum being the primary element used. He also sees the device will be rectangular in shape and feature 'holes' to measure vital signs such as heart rate.

Tim Cook Says Apple Will Implement Additional Security Measures Following Nude Celebrity Photo

Apple CEO Tim Cook has spoken with the WSJ to address concerns following this week's leak of nude celebrity photos that were stolen from their iCloud accounts.
The company previously reported that iCloud was not breached and the photos were accessed by hackers who correctly guessed the security questions set by the celebrities or used a phishing scam to obtain their account details. However, Cook said Apple would take more steps to notify users that such activity may be taking place.

To make such leaks less likely, Mr. Cook said Apple will alert users via email and push notifications when someone tries to change an account password, restore iCloud data to a new device, or when a device logs into an account for the first time. Until now, users got an email when someone tried to change a password or log in for the first time from an unknown Apple device; there were no notifications for or restoring iCloud data.
