Next Generation iPhone Could Feature the 'Biggest Camera Jump Ever'

Apple's next generation iPhone could feature the 'biggest camera jump ever', suggests Daring Fireball's John Gruber.
In the latest episode of the The Talk Show podcast, Gruber relays a rumor that he heard 'from a birdie who knows a birdie'.
"Ever since the 3GS, every single year the iPhone camera has gotten noticeably better. Like enough better that the camera alone was tempting to be the reason that you upgraded every single year, at least if you care about photography. "

"So, there's no reason to thing that that's going to stop anyway but the specific thing I heard is that next year's camera might be like the biggest camera jump ever. I don't even know what sense this makes but I've heard that it's some sort of weird two-lens system where the back uses two lenses and somehow that takes it up into SLR quality imagery."
Notably, there are some interesting two-lens systems that very well could be used in the next generation iPhone.

Snapchat and Square Announce 'Snapcash'

Snapchat and Square have partnered to unveil 'Snapcash', an easy way to send money to friends from Snapchat.

Official announcement
Today is a big day for us - we are launching our first product created in partnership with another company. We’re huge fans of the folks at Square and have been big admirers of Square Cash since it launched – just type a dollar amount into the subject line of an email and send cash to friends. Genius!

We loved it so much that we wanted to create something with them that felt Snapchat-y. So we built a Snapcash prototype and shared it with the team at Square. Luckily for us, they were just as excited as we were and wanted to build it together.

The product you’re seeing today is fast, fun, and incredibly simple. After you enter your debit card, it’s securely stored by Square, who will swiftly process your payment and send cash directly to your friend’s bank account. Just swipe into chat, type the dollar sign, an amount (e.g. $11.25), and hit the green button.

How to Reset the SMC in Mac Pro, Mac mini and iMac

Resetting the SMC can resolve some computer issues such as not starting up, not displaying video, sleep issues, fan noise issues, and so forth.
The System Management Controller (SMC) is a chip on the logic board that controls all power functions for your computer. If your computer is experiencing any power issue, resetting the SMC may resolve it.

The SMC controls several functions, including:

- Telling the computer when to turn on, turn off, sleep, wake, idle, and so forth.
- Handling system resets from various commands.
- Controlling the fans.

Note that resetting the SMC does not reset the PRAM. Resetting the SMC will not resolve issues in which your computer is unresponsive – in these situations, restarting your computer will generally suffice. If your computer exhibits these types of issues after you’ve restarted the computer, try resetting the SMC.

Apple is Reportedly Working on a Glasses-Free 3D iPhone Display

Apple is working on a glasses-free 3D display for the next iPhone.

Sources cited by the Taiwanese media have recently suggested that the next iPhone will employ a glassless 3D display, or at least that Apple is taking this idea into consideration. In addition, these sources claim that Apple is also planning on creating a 3D “hardware and software ecosystem”. We don’t know what hardware ecosystem means (VR?) but a software ecosystem definitely makes sense if this kind of tech is to be more than a gimmick.

Cydia 1.1.16 Fixes 'Restore From Backup' Issue, Increases Multitask Timeout

Saurik has released an update to Cydia that fixes the 'Restore from Backup' issue which required you to reinstall Cydia Installer after restoring from an iTunes backup, after only less than a week from releasing the last Cydia update version 1.1.14.

Here's a look at what's new in Cydia 1.1.16:
iOS 8 "Restore from Backup" Fixed
This update fixes an important bug in Cydia 1.1.14 and 1.1.15 on iOS 8: if you used "restore from backup" in iTunes after your first use of Cydia, you needed to reinstall this package to make sure your device could safely reboot with a passcode enabled.

It should now be OK to use the iTunes "restore from backup" feature without needing to then reinstall Cydia Installer afterward to avoid reboot problems.
