Apple Begins Advertising Stock iOS Apps in App Store Search Results

Apple has started advertising stock iOS apps in App Store search results.


When performing a search for several common phrases like web browser, sms, apps, or internet, the first search result is a link to visit or open Apple's stock application. For example, when searching for 'web browser' the first result is Safari with a link to 'Open Safari'.

Spike in Apple Store Visitors May Be Attributed to iPad

Asymco analyst Horace Dediu has posted some interesting analysis of the increase in visitors to Apple's retail stores.


As you can see in the charts below, there is a spike in visitors per store that begins in Q1 2010. Dediu looks at several possibilities for the spike including store redesigns to allow for more traffic, additional store openings, and staffing changes. He concludes that the most likely cause isn't one of those factors but instead the launch of the iPad in April 2010.

FAA Allows Expanded Use of Electronic Devices During All Phases of Flight

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that airlines can safely expand passenger use of electronic devices during all phases of flight, and has provided the airlines with implementation guidelines.


Due to differences among fleets and operations, the implementation will vary among airlines, but the agency expects many carriers will prove to the FAA that their planes allow passengers to safely use their devices in airplane mode, gate-to-gate, by the end of the year.

Target Lists November 21 Release Date for the Retina Display iPad Mini

Target is listing a November 21st release date for the Retina Display iPad mini.


It's unclear if the retailer has been told the launch date by Apple or if it is just making an educated guess. Apple has only announced that the device will be available later in November.

iPad Airs Begin Arriving at Apple Stores and Resellers in Large Quantities

Apple Stores and Resellers are receive large quantities of the iPad Air ahead of its launch on November 1st.


At Apple Stores, we’ve heard that multiple large stores across the United States have already received upwards of 500-1000 units of the iPad Air, indicating that the supply of the new tablet will likely be plentiful at launch. We’ve heard similar from resellers of iPads internationally with some chains indicating that they will have a solid number of iPad Airs on tap for Friday. These stores say even more supply is promised for the next couple of weeks…
